Case Studies – Kelly-Jo Robson13th July, 2018
Our FAST Fund eased some of the financial strain on weightlifter Kelly-Jo Robson, enabling her to do herself and her country proud at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Born in Brotton and now living in Stockton, Kelly-Jo found funding hard to come by in weightlifting, but she received two welcome grants of around £2,000 from us which turned out to be a major shot in the arm.
The cash allowed the strength and conditioning coach to hire a nutritionist, buy new kit, attend injury-reduction sessions and be a lot more professional.
It all had the desired effect as pocket rocket Kelly-Jo was selected for this year’s Commonwealth Games by Team England after setting a new competitive PB with a 150kg lift.
Kelly-Jo finished just outside the rostrum spots in her big international debut on Australia’s Gold Coast, claiming sixth place in the 48kg final following the snatch and clean & jerk rounds.
It gives the 2016 English champion a terrific platform to build on as she aims to win a medal at the next Commonwealth Games closer to home in Birmingham in 2022.« Back to all posts
