Case study: Andrew Green2nd March, 2019
Can our FAST Fund make a big difference to a sportsperson you know – just like it has to disability table tennis player Andrew Green?
We gave Billingham youngster Andrew £4,000 to help with his ping pong progress.
The 19-year-old spent £3,700 on a new made to measure wheelchair specifically designed for table tennis.
And it proved a good investment as GB Development Squad player Andrew said the cash and his new wheelchair have been key in taking his game to the next level.
National junior champion two years ago, the Bishop Auckland club player won silver at the Malmo Open in Sweden in February in his new chair, in Junior Band B.
Andrew said: “It’s been really important to have the chair – it’s made a huge difference to my game.
“I have to thank the FAST Fund for everything they’ve done really in helping me progress.
“I’d been in a normal chair for six years and was making do, so I couldn’t have pushed on without this one.
“Table tennis means a lot to me. I train about 12, 13 hours a week.”
Andrew is currently ranked 14th in Great Britain and third in his category.
